The Black Maidens of Ghana are one step away from qualifying for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after beating Morocco 2-0 at the Accra sports stadium on Friday.
The Maidens started the game on the high but a well-organised Moroccan side proved a hard nut to crack in the early stages of the game.
The goal finally arrived in the 18th minute when Stella Nyamekye fired a shot from close range to put the Maidens in front.
Rashida Shahadu and Stella Nyamekye were gifted with glorious opportunities to double the lead for the host in the 23rd and 52nd minutes but the Moroccan goalkeeper denied them.
They went into the break with the score 1-0 in the Ghanaians favor.
Twenty minutes inside the second department of the game, Nancy Amoh superbly converted a freekick to double the lead for Ghana.
Coach Baba Nuhu’s ladies continued to push for a third goal but the Moroccans stood resolute to deny the Maidens as the referee whistled to end proceedings 2-0 for Ghana.
The return leg is scheduled for Rabat, Morocco in two weeks with the winner qualifying for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, India 2022.
