The government through the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has scheduled Tuesday, July 12, 2022, to begin negotiations with the Organized Labour over their demands of 20% Cost of Living Allowance.
The decision comes on the back of an emergency meeting held on Friday 8, July 2022 to expand discussions on the call for COLA to a wider scope.
The meeting included government, represented by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Finance Ministry, Education Ministry, the Organized Labour, and the National Security.
In a statement issued at the end of the meeting, the Ministry expressed the government’s commitment to engaging Organised Labour to find a lasting solution to the matter.
“In the light of the foregoing, the parties have resolved to reconvene on Tuesday, July 12th July 2022 at 2 pm, to begin negotiations on the demand by Organized Labour.”
The government used the opportunity and appealed to the Teacher Unions to call off their ongoing industrial actions looking forward to a resolution.

Beginning of the week, four teacher unions embarked on a nationwide strike over the government’s refusal to pay them their 20% COLA demands.
They include the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers in Ghana (CCT).
