The police have arrested 12 persons for their alleged involvement in communal clashes in the Chereponi district of the North-East Region.
The suspects are Sulemana A. Mumuni, Salifu Abdulai, Sulemana Seidu, Alidu Mukaila, Adam Naaba, Alhassan Nasona, and Bawah Yakubu Ibn Mohammed, Bawah Salisu, Imoro Bomah, Imoro Karim, Adams Nasona and Abdulai Yussif.
The clashes led to the burning down of 16 houses and the killing of several livestock on July 25, 2022, in the Gbalo and Kukpong/Sagong communities in the Chereponi District of the North-East Region.
However, the timely intervention of the Police led to the saving of lives and restoration of calm in the affected communities.
Following the clash, the police through an intelligence-led operation on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, arrested the suspects for their alleged involvement in the clashes.
They will be arraigned in court on Thursday 25 August 2022.
“We continue to urge everyone to choose dialogue rather than violence in resolving their differences,” the police administration said in a statement.
