The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) says no life or property was lost during the incident which involved a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker at Dadieso in the Ashanti Region.
The LPG tanker belonging to Society Nationale Burkinabe d’Hydrocarbures (SONABHY), a state-owned company responsible for fuel supply in Burkina Faso, was transporting LPG to the neighbouring country when it was involved in an accident at Dadieso on Friday, May 3, 2024.
The situation brought about anxiety among residents due to the potential danger of the product leading to demonstrations and blockade of the Accra-Kumasi trunk road by some residents.
A statement from the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the NPA explained that, despite the danger the incident posed to the residents there were no casualties.
“The NPA can confirm that there were no incidents leading to the loss of human lives and destruction of properties as speculated in the social media,” It stated.
According to the statement, “The NPA temporarily arranged for a private company to evacuate the product.”
The authority emphasis that upon receipt of the information, they contacted the management of SONABHY and instructed them to dispatch an empty tanker and a pumping vehicle to evacuate the product of which they adhered.
“The product has since been transferred into SONABHY’s empty tank and transported to Burkina Faso,” says the NPA.
The NPA in its conclusion statement acknowledged and thanked the efforts of the residents who assisted in diverse ways to make the evacuation of the LPG successful.
