Head of Communication for the campaign team of the 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye has said that former President John Mahama lied when the former leader claimed in a media engagement that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should be credited with the launch of the free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
Former President John Dramani Mahama’s during an engagement with the media claimed that the Free SHS policy was initiated by his government in 2015 under a progressive arrangement.
Upon the launch of the policy in 2015, he said, the then flag bearer of the NPP and now President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who first proposed the policy at a public debate in 2012, lauded then President Mahama for giving life to his proposal.
Mr Mahama said the NDC government started the policy with Day students, “and after the second year, we absorbed 170,000 into the free SHS”. “UNESCO congratulated us for launching the free SHS,” he added.
Commenting on this claim on Joy FM’s Newsfile which was monitored by Angelonline.com.gh, Miracles Aboagye said he is still shocked that the former President is seeking to claim credit for the free SHS policy.
According to him, the former Ghana’s leader and his party, the NDC sponsored many adverts against the free SHS policy and hence remains shocked that someone who sponsored adverts against a policy says he should be credited with the founding of same.
He further revealed that day students paid fees when the former President was in power.
