The Chief of Anyinasin in the Eastern Region, Osaberima Atta Appeakrong Agyei II, has denounced illegal mining activities, also known as galamsey in his community.
He has, therefore, warned financiers and individuals engaged in the practice within his jurisdiction to stop the illegality immediately or face his wrath.
According to the traditional ruler, he is embarking on a shoot-and-kill campaign to ensure that they preserve the water bodies and forest reserves in the area.
Osaberima Atta Appeakrong made the declaration days after he ordered the youth of Anyinasin to burn two escavators and other mining equipments used by some galamseyers in the catchment area.
Speaking to Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah on Thursday, September 5, 2024, he stated categorically that the days of burning and seizing machines used for illegal mining are over in Anyinasin and its environs.
“I’m saddened by the negative consequences of the galamsey activities in my jurisdiction, but I want to emphasize this to the hearing of the whole world.
“Anyone who thinks he is a man and not bordered by the extent of how our water bodies and forest reserves have been destroyed should attempt with galamsey again in Anyinasin because this time around it’ll be shoot and kill,” he said on the Angel Morning Show.
The Akyem Anyinasihene, also a police officer, indicated that the fight against the Galamsey Act is “no more going to be burning of excavators.”
He stressed further that as far as he lives and continues to serve in the capacity of a chief, illegal miners should consider Anyinasin a no-go area as he will not entertain the practice.
