Health Minister, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has disclosed that the government has released GH¢462.58 million for the payment of nursing training allowances, covering both the first and second quarters of the year. According to him, the funds were credited to the accounts of student nurses just 24 hours ago.
He made this announcement during the Government Accountability Series at the Presidency, where he outlined the Ministry’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery and welfare of health trainees across the country.
“This demonstrates that when we say we support our future health workers, we follow through,” the Minister said, noting that the timely disbursement is part of government’s renewed commitment to invest in the health sector, starting with the young people who form its backbone.
The nursing training allowance had, in past years, become a major issue of national concern, with delays in payment leading to hardship among students in various health training institutions.
Hon. Akandoh’s announcement brings relief to many students who have been waiting for the funds to support their academic and personal needs.
He stressed that the Ministry is working to ensure that such payments are no longer delayed.
“Moving forward, we will maintain this momentum to ensure allowances are paid on schedule, because supporting our trainees today means building a stronger, healthier Ghana tomorrow,” he said.
The Minister also emphasized that the government sees health trainees not just as students, but as critical pillars in the future of Ghana’s healthcare system.
He reiterated that timely financial support, better training facilities, and career growth opportunities will remain a top priority for the Ministry under the current administration.
