Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has outlined an ambitious road infrastructure programme that will see significant rehabilitation works across 166 constituencies identified as having some of the country’s most critical road needs.
Presenting the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament on Thursday, July 24, Dr. Forson disclosed that the government plans to fix 10 kilometres of roads annually in each of the selected constituencies over a three-year period.
“The government has identified 166 constituencies in dire need of road infrastructure. In response, we have programmed to rehabilitate 10km of roads annually in each of these constituencies,” he told Parliament.
He explained that by the end of the three years, the total distance of roads expected to be reconstructed would amount to 5,000 kilometres.
“Mr. Speaker, this translates to about 5,000km of roads to be reconstructed in these 166 constituencies over the next three years,” he added.
Some of the key road projects under the plan include the construction of a new bridge over the Oti River at Dambai, the dualisation of the Winneba–Mankessim and Cape Coast–Takoradi roads, and the rehabilitation or upgrading of critical roads in regions such as Upper West, Bono East, Volta, Western North, and Greater Accra.
Roads such as the Techiman–Nkonsia–Wenchi, Tumu–Hamile, and Tema–Aflao (Section 1) are also part of the targeted improvements.
