A 41-year-old cocoa purchasing clerk and farmer, Wahibu Bukari, has been arrested by the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command after allegedly shooting his wife, Faustina Ackom, 35, during a domestic dispute at Assin Anum in the Central Region.
The incident, which occurred around 1:00 AM on Sunday, reportedly stemmed from long-standing suspicions of infidelity.
According to eyewitnesses, Wahibu became enraged after discovering contact numbers on his wife’s phone, which he believed vindicates his suspicions.
He confronted her while she was asleep, leading to a heated argument during which he allegedly shot her in the left arm and flee.
The victim, called for help, promting nearby residents, who rushed in to rescue her and rushed her to the hospital.
Following the attack, the suspect fled and went into hiding in an abandoned structure on a cocoa farm in a nearby village.
After four days on the run, Wahibu reportedly surrendered himself to community members at Assin Anum, who proceeded to hand him over to the police.
He is currently in police custody assisting investigations.
The couple had been married for over a decade and had four children together.
The victim is currently receiving treatment at St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu, while police investigations continue.
