The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibril, has described as “wrong” the timing of the bribery revelation made by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Driver and Vehicles Licensing Authority (DVLA).
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Wednesday, 29th October 2025, he emphasises that while the issue is significant, its timing was problematic.
“The issue is a very important issue, but raised at a wrong time, a totally wrong time.”
He noted that the matter requires supporting evidence, which may no longer be accessible and explained that if the money had been accepted, not for personal gain, it could have served as evidence against the perpetrators.
“The time they brought the money, even if you wouldn’t take it, trap them by taking the money to use it as an evidence against them,” he said.
Mahdi Gibril believed that such incidents should not take months before being disclosed and must be reported promptly.
“If such things happen it must be reported early, you don’t wait for a longer period if time,” he said, referencing Dr. Hannah Bissiw’s rental-related issue.
According to Mr. Gibril, many people may perceive Julius Neequaye Kortey’s actions as an attempt to deflect attention from events in Parliament.
“Many people will say that, because of what happened in Parliament… He is doing this to cover up issues that took place in Parliament.”
He reiterated his hope that Mr. Julius Neequaye Kortey possesses video or audio recordings that could substantiate his claims.
“I pray he has videos, CCtv footages, or recordings to serve as evidence so that we can push it further. I think that they should look at it, so that people would see the results of such corruption,” Mahdi Gibril expressed.
