Vice President Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has urged the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to strengthen its engagement with government and make its work more visible to the public.
She emphasised government’s recognition of CSIR’s role in national development.
Against this backdrop, Prof. Opoku Agyemang encouraged the institution to intensify its collaboration with government and enhance public engagement.
“I conveyed the government’s admiration for CSIR’s transformative work. Ghana does not lack knowledge or expertise; we have researchers who can help solve the most pressing national challenges, from agriculture and food security to health, industry and climate resilience.
“I encouraged CSIR to step even closer to Government, to speak boldly, and to make their work even more visible. Exhibitions, public engagement and policy support are essential,” she remarked in a Facebook post on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
Her comments followed a meeting with the leadership of CSIR, led by the Director-General, Prof. Paul Pinnock Bosu, on Friday, December 19.
Highlighting the importance of research in addressing national challenges, she added:
“We need research that answers real problems, and CSIR is well placed to lead that effort. I look forward to deeper collaboration as we pursue the solutions that put Ghana first.”
The CSIR team, for their part, expressed appreciation for government support, citing the exposure gained on the global front.
“The operationalisation of the Ghana Research Fund and the recent opportunity to join the World Food Programme engagements, an avenue that strengthened their international exposure,” it noted.
The team also raised “important concerns about staffing levels and infrastructure.”
