Ghanaian heart surgeon, Dr. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, made history in 1983, when he became the first Black doctor in the world to perform a heart transplant while working in Germany.
His achievement was a major breakthrough in medicine and brought global recognition to Ghana.
Dr. Frimpong Boateng later served his country in government. From 2017 to 2021, he was Ghana’s Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, where he helped shape policies on science, technology, and environmental protection.
He is currently the President of the Ghana Heart Foundation, an organization focused on educating the public about heart health and improving cardiac care in Ghana.
