The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced investigations into allegations of vote buying and vote selling during recent political party primaries.
The OSP began an inquiry into the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, and on Saturday, February 7 opened a real‑time investigation into the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East constituency.
The investigations focus on vote buying, vote selling, and the funding sources of the alleged corrupt acts.
During the NDC primaries on February 7, candidate Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed is accused of abetting thugs to physically attack an OSP officer who was serving an investigative directive related to vote buying and vote selling.
Consequently, the OSP has opened a further investigation into the assault on its authorised officer in relation to Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed.
The OSP reminded the public that the law prohibits corrupt acts in elections, including vote buying, vote selling, intimidation, threats of violence, and election-related violence, which are serious offences.
