President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate recall of Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, popularly known as Baba Jamal, from his post as Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The decision comes in the wake of allegations of voter inducement during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency, where Mr. Baba Jamal was a candidate. I
In a directive to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the President emphasized that while claims of vote‑buying were made against several contestants in the primaries, Baba Jamal was the only serving public officer among them.
President Mahama noted that, in line with the standards expected of public officials and to uphold the integrity of public office, it is necessary to act decisively to avoid any perception of impropriety or conflict with the Government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees.
He also acknowledged a public statement by the NDC General Secretary indicating that the party has launched its own investigation into the allegations surrounding the primaries.
The recall takes effect immediately, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs has been instructed to undertake the required administrative and diplomatic steps to implement the President’s directive.
