The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced the appointment of Hamamat Montia as the country’s Global Shea Butter Ambassador.
Her designation is a nod to her outstanding efforts in showcasing Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and traditional knowledge globally.
In a Facebook post shared by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the GTA, Gilbert Abeiku Santana, the appointment was described as an honour to culture, legacy, and impact.
Montia’s work with the Shea Butter Museum and her efforts in elevating Ghana’s creative identity have been highlighted as key reasons for her selection.
The title aims to position shea butter, a traditional Ghanaian product, as a symbol of national pride and economic potential in global markets.
The Authority hopes the ambassadorial role will inspire further promotion of indigenous products and cultural tourism, encouraging both local and international audiences to “Experience Ghana” and “Visit Ghana” as part of the #GhanaTourism campaign.
Stakeholders in the tourism and cultural sectors have welcomed the appointment, seeing it as a strategic move to highlight Ghana’s unique heritage and indigenous craftsmanship on a global platform.
