A police officer has been shot dead on the Zebilla-Widnaba road in the Bawku Division following a robbery attack.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that on Sunday, February 8, 2026, two police officers traveling toward Zebilla encountered the robbery in progress.
In an attempt to intervene, the robbers opened fire on the officers, hitting one of them in the process.
A police team responding to the incident, following a distress call, rushed the injured officer to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead.
The Upper East Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the robbery incident that resulted in the death of the police officer on duty.
The body of the deceased officer has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
A special operation is underway to identify and arrest all individuals involved, ensuring they face the absolute severity of the law.
