Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has paid a visit to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to appeal on humanitarian grounds for the release of two Ghanaians being held as prisoners of war.
The engagement was announced in a social media post on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, stating that the bilateral talks aimed at effectively combating security threats and safeguarding the youth across Africa.
“Our bilateral talks explored how our two countries can effectively combat the threat posed by trafficking networks who lure vulnerable, unsuspecting youth from Africa only to end up risking their lives in the ongoing war,” the statement read.

He added, “I am optimistic that we shall be successful in our negotiations.”
Mr. Ablakwa emphasized that the discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, with strategic interventions outlined in the areas of agriculture, defence, education, and trade.
The Minister also acknowledged President John Dramani and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for protecting Ghanaians’ rights under the international law.
