Minister of Communication, Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced plans for the upcoming SIM reregistration exercise, designed to enhance customer convenience.
Speaking to the media on Friday, February 27, 2026, he highlighted that the move is intended to eliminate the need for customers to visit service provider offices, enabling registrations to be completed on smart devices.
“I can assure people we’re confident that up to 60% of our country’s population will not have to go and queue, because they have smart devices, will be able to go onto an application to do the registration themselves, so the queues won’t happen,” he emphasized.
According to him, the exercise will be done in a manner that prevent functional risk, stressing that “the bottom line is that it’s not a reregistration but registration with biometric, once we do the biometrics it gets locked in.”
Highlighting the smooth process of the registration exercise, the Minister maintained that a joint collaboration with the National Identification Authority (NIA) and National Communication Authority (NCA) leading engagement with the Chamber of Telecommunications.
He outlined that the framework will also be presented to Parliament to address the “black market” through the Legislative instrument (LI).
