A member of the Communication Team for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Kwarteng, has voiced concerns about President Mahama’s 2026 State of the Nation Address (SoNA), noting its silence on several unfulfilled campaign promises.
Speaking on Angel FM on March 2, 2026, Mr. Kwarteng observed that the president did not address the commitments made during his campaign that contributed to his election victory.
Mr. Kwarteng emphasised the promise of a 24-hour Economy, which was intended to employ three times the current workforce in various organisations and institutions, aiming to create more jobs for the youth.
He asserted that this initiative has failed to yield any results, and Mahama did not mention it in his SoNA.
He also highlighted the pledge to train one million individuals in Information Technology (IT) to become coders, stating that no training has taken place, with no mention of it in the address.
Furthermore, he referred to the unfulfilled promise of establishing a Women’s Development Bank for Ghanaian women, which was similarly unacknowledged in the SoNA.
“He said he was going to bring something called a 24-hour Economy; he said one job would be done by three people, with some working in the morning, some in the afternoon, and some in the evening.
“Today, when he stood in Parliament, what progress did he report?” Kwarteng questioned.
He asserted that the government has been in power for approximately a year and a half and has yet to deliver on these crucial promises, which were pivotal in securing Mahama’s position.
“Let him sit here and tackle himself and laugh. What I want to say is that the suffering in this country is unbearable.
The promises President Mahama made to Ghanaians to secure their votes have not been fulfilled; instead, he seems to be doing the opposite,” he stated.
Mr. Kwarteng further urged the government to prioritise the fulfilment of the commitments made to Ghanaians during the campaign.
