Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artiste Ras Kuuku has expressed disappointment over his nominations at the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), questioning why he was excluded from the Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year category.
Speaking to the media after the nominees announcement on Saturday, March 14, 2026, Ras Kuuku said he finds it difficult to understand how he could be nominated for Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year without having a song in the Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year category.
“I don’t understand why I’m not in the Reggae/Dancehall Song category, but I’m in the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste category,” he said.
According to the musician, a song should normally form the basis for an artiste’s recognition in the category, and the absence of his song raises questions about the selection process.
“If someone qualifies to get a Reggae/Dancehall Song without being in the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste category, then what qualifies the person? It should rather be Reggae Song of the Year because without it, how can you be in the Reggae Artiste of the Year category, he questioned.
Ras Kuuku added that he followed the required procedures and submitted his works for consideration, but still failed to secure a nomination in the song category.
“I filed and did everything. What do they want me to do again? I feel I’ve been cheated,” he stated.
The artiste further indicated that even if he eventually wins the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award, he would still feel the process was unfair because his song was not recognised in the appropriate category.
“Even if I win Reggae Artiste, they still haven’t been fair to me because I should win the Reggae/Dancehall Song, which will make me qualify for the Reggae Artiste,” he added.
He concluded by questioning the logic behind awarding an artiste in the category without a corresponding nominated song.
“So if someone wins Reggae/Dancehall Artiste without the song, is it rational? It doesn’t tally,” he said.
