The Akosombo Divisional Police Command has arrested three suspects at Larsi, Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region, for possessing a large quantity of forged U.S. currency.
The suspects are; Ebenezer Narh-Tsu, aged 20; George Attor, aged 48; and Bishop Robert Olertey, aged 54.
They were found with 105 bundles of forged U.S. dollar notes in $100 denominations.
According to the Police, the fake currency was discovered in a student’s trunk during an intelligence-led operation by officers from the Odumase-Krobo District Police.
During the arrest, one of the suspects, Bishop Robert Olertey, allegedly attempted to bribe the officers with GH¢20,000 to evade prosecution.
The Police subsequently rejected the offer and proceeded to detain and hand him over to the Akosombo Divisional CID for further investigation.
Police noted that the Circuit Court granted Olertey bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties, directing him to report to the police every Monday for two weeks to assist with ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, the other two have been granted police bail enquiry.
The Police further urged the public to remain vigilant and watch out for counterfeit currency to avoid falling victim to financial fraud.
