Member of Parliament (MP) for Kade in the Kwaebibirem Municipal District, Alexander Kwadwo Agyare, has called for increased transparency in the dealings between the Bank of Ghana and GoldBod, particularly in light of the past controversy surrounding a $214 million loss.
Speaking on behalf of the minority on Monday, March 16, 2026, Mr. Agyare emphasized that the necessity for the government to be vigilant, as the people of Ghana are unwilling to incur losses from a program intended to support the economy.
He stressed the need for transparency regarding the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s involvement, as it is known that over $214 million was disputed between GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana.
He highlighted that the government should provide clear and accountable information, especially considering the gravity of the financial losses.
“The government should sit up because people in Ghana are not ready to make losses over a program that is supposed to support our economy. In the end, we are spending so much and making losses as well,” he stated.
Mr. Agyare underscored the importance of public access to information, emphasizing that the government must be accountable to the citizens, as the funds involved ultimately belong to the people of Ghana.
“We can’t just lose over $214 million, yet we will not get good answers to that. The government should be transparent; it is the people of Ghana, it is our money,” he added.
