The Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly, under heavy security presence, has demolished parts of Kasoa Old Market as part of a redevelopment project.
The exercise took place shortly after Easter Monday celebrations at about 11:00 pm on Monday April, 6, 2026, with security personnel heavily deployed to oversee and maintain order throughout.
Speaking on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), the Assembly Staff, Abdul Rahman Mohammed, stated that traders had been given adequate notice to relocate to a designated market at Iron City to pave way for redevelopment.
“The Assembly briefed and spoke to them, and the chiefs and major stakeholders also spoke to them, and gave them date to move and pave way for development to occur, continuing that, “so the assembly relocated them at Iron City, creating markets, desks, and we sent some of the traders there, and some of them were even happy,” he highlighted.
Mr. Rahman Mohammed explained that the task force had earlier notified them about the planned exercise, indicating that while some traders were able to move their goods, others could not do so in time.
He added that the exercise was carried out in collaboration with joint security forces to ensure the safety of traders’ goods during the process.
“We have brought a joint force, including the Military, Immigration, Fire Service, National Security, and NADMO, to make sure that goods are being evacuated.
“We won’t allow any bad person to steal. As it stands, there is no harsh destruction,” he noted.
