The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) has expressed its readiness to honor a potential invitation from Parliament regarding questions about its operations.
This planned move by Parliament, first highlighted by the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, follows reports of a vessel allegedly detained and boarded by the Senegalese Navy.
In the post, the MP, who also serves on the Parliament’s Committee on Public Administration and State Interest, vowed to demand accountability on the matter.
In a statement issued on Saturday, April 11, 2026, the Authority acknowledged Parliament’s oversight role and indicated its willingness to appear before the House to provide full disclosure.
“The GMA respects the oversight responsibility of Parliament, and at the appropriate time, should the Authority be invited by Parliament, the Authority is fully ready and willing to provide all necessary details and engage transparently with the House,” part of the statement pronounced.
According to the GMA, its decisions are guided by the safety and security of Ghana’s maritime domain.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining integrity in regulating the maritime industry and assured the public that it will not compromise its mandate.
