The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operation Secretariat (NAIMOS), has conducted aggressive patrol operations along the Ankobra River, targeting areas including Prestea, Maham, Banso Bio, Cocoase, and Gwira Wiaso.
During the patrol, the task force identified six changfan machines involved in illegal mining operations, which were drawing water from the river and discharging wastewater back into it.
The operators fled upon sighting the task force, abandoning their equipment.
Two water pumping machines and attached hoses were retrieved and destroyed by burning.
The sustained presence of NAIMOS personnel has led to a significant reduction in illegal mining activities on the river.
The task force said it remains committed to safeguarding Ghana’s water bodies and natural resources and will continue to carry out operations to eliminate illegal mining activities.
