The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ga Central Municipal Assembly, Emmanuel Adottey Alotey, has urged local entrepreneurs to take advantage of increased support and expanded business opportunities as the Assembly intensifies efforts to promote Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
According to him, local entrepreneurs must create markets for locally made products and help residents transform their skills into sustainable businesses.
He made these remarks during a three-day trade fair organised by the Ga Central Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) Business Advisory Centre at the Anyaa Zonal Council.
The initiative brought together artisans, traders and other entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products.
In an interview with the media, Mr Alotey emphasised the importance of the initiative, stating that the Assembly seeks to provide businesses, particularly MSMEs, with a platform to exhibit their products and services, gain public attention and attract potential customers.
“We’re using it to showcase what we called Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise and here we have other businesses and some of them are Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise which they’re indeed working well.
“And is because of them that’s why we have BOB to help here, so I urged everyone leaving in Awoshie to Ablekuma that if they want to buy something they should the Zona Council,” he said.
He further disclosed that the Assembly plans to organise the trade fair three times every year to ensure continuous support for local businesses.
Mr Alotey noted that residents pay taxes and deserve to see the benefits of their contributions. He stressed the need to support their handiwork and businesses to improve their livelihoods and put smiles on their faces.
The Head of the Business Advisory Centre, Maame Akua Adu-Asare, explained that the initiative is being implemented through the Ghana Enterprises Agency in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation to support the growth of businesses, particularly MSMEs.
She added that the programme also aims to build the capacity of entrepreneurs and expose them to business development opportunities.
“Our aim is to transform MSMEs and empower people that’s why we’ve organized the trade show here to help small businesses to grow.

“Just to showcase their businesses, some are selling canned foods, canned meats, yoghurt, dresses including things you can use hands to make are what we’re selling here.
“So we empower everyone to use their hands to do something and we don’t want anyone to say the government should give us a job but empower everyone to work on their own,” she added.
