The Central East Regional Police Command has secured a conviction in a robbery case involving 20-year-old Mohammed Bello, who was arrested after a coordinated police response to a robbery incident that occurred in the early hours of July 6, 2025.
According to the police, Bello and four other accomplices currently on the run intercepted vehicles and robbed passengers of their belongings at Dabanyin, near the Gomoa Buduatta junction on the Kasoa-Winneba highway.
Among the items stolen were mobile phones, cash, and personal effects of the victims.
“The convict was arrested at the scene while trying to escape, thanks to an intelligence-led operation by our team,” said DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region.
A search conducted on the suspect at the time of arrest led to the recovery of GH₵3,740.00 in cash, multiple phones, an Itel power bank, a lady’s purse, sticks of cigarettes, and a pair of sandals later identified by one of the victims.
“The items found on him directly linked him to the crime, and our investigations confirmed his involvement,” DSP Dosoo noted.
Bello appeared before the Ofaakor Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 8, where he pleaded guilty to charges of robbery.
The court sentenced him to 25 years in prison with hard labour. “This outcome reflects our dedication to ensuring that criminals face the full force of the law,” the police spokesperson added.
The Central East Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued efforts to maintain law and order.
“We are working tirelessly to apprehend the remaining suspects and will not relent until they are brought to justice,” DSP Dosoo emphasized.
