Businessman, Akwasi Addai Odike, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of failing to fulfil his promise to declare a state of emergency on illegal mining (Galamsey).
According to him, President Mahama’s campaign pledge to tackle galamsey through a state of emergency was a key factor that led to his victory in the 2024 election, but the promise remains unmet.
“You said within 120 days, you’ll declare a state of emergency on all forms of surface mining, and if you claim you believe in Christ and go by the will of Christ, walk the talk on the social contract between you and the electorates because that’s why they voted for you,” Odike said on Monday, August 10, 2025 on the Angel Morning Show (AMS).
The firebrand politician and busiessman said that “After he [Mahama] came into power, he started giving excuses.”
Akwasi Addai Odike asserted that the tragedy that claimed the lives of the eight public officials would have been averted if President Mahama had declared a state of emergency on galamsey when he took office.
