The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested four individuals in connection with a shooting incident that occurred during the burial and funeral rites of six family members at Asamankese on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
The suspects, identified as Isaac Ntim Nana Yaw Zenyo, Bismarck K. K. Adam, and Buaben Richard, were arrested, but their detention triggered an attack by agitated youth who pelted police officers with stones and other implements
According to the police, the incident resulted in injuries to six civilians and three police officers.
A police preliminary investigations revealed that some individuals were conveying guns and cartridges into a room near the chief’s palace.
Personnel were dispatched to the scene, leading to the retrieval of one single-barrel gun, eighty-four live AAA cartridges, seven cutlasses, and two knives.
Three officers sustained head and hand injuries, and two police vehicles suffered damage to their windscreens and side glass.
The youth further blocked the Asamankese–Akroso junction and fired guns indiscriminately, alleging that the bereaved family intended to bury the six bodies in the royal cemetery.
Six individuals, David Odame, 28; Musah Gyakwel, 29; Patrick Ofosu; Obeng Emmanuel, 18; Asamoah Sey, 18; and another person yet to be identified sustained gunshot wounds. They are currently receiving treatment at the Asamankese Government Hospital.
Police, in a statement, confirmed that the suspects are in custody assisting with investigations.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command said calm has been restored in the Asamankese Township where it announced intensified patrols and surveillance in the area to maintain law and order.
The statement also assured of a security strategy in place to protect lives and property and to allow residents to go about their normal activities.
