The Minority in Parliament has boasted of the election of the flagbearer-elect for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as its new leader.
The Caucus described him as the “anchor man” who will provide vision and direction for their legislative agenda.
This statement was made when Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin led the caucus to pay a courtesy call on Dr. Bawumia on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at his residence.
This was to formally congratulate him following his election on Saturday, January 31.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Afenyo-Markin emphasized the renewed confidence of the Minority in the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 election.
“We have also undertaken to regularly engage your high office in everything we do for directions because you may recall that last year, there was no direction.
“So we were trying to do our own things to survive but with you now as the anchor man, we can look up to you for vision and direction,” he stated in an address.
He strongly asserted that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership will bring greater coherence and purpose to the Caucus’s parliamentary work.
In response, Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude for the gesture, describing the visit as both humbling and significant.
“Our leaders in Parliament, the minority, I would like to really thank all of you. I feel very humbled by this visit by the Caucus. It’s really something that is very important,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia overcame a fierce contest against Kennedy Agyapong, Bryan Acheampong, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, and Osei Yaw Adutwum to win the flagbearer race.
