The Member of Parliament for Asunafo North, Haruna Mohammed, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has no moral authority to question the proposal to rename Kotoka International Airport.
Speaking on Anopa Bofoɔ on Angel TV/FM on Thursday, February 5, 2026, Mr. Mohammed argued that the NPP engaged in similar actions while in government and could have done even more controversial changes.
“NPP has no moral right to talk about the name change of Kotoka International Airport,” the MP said.
He established that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) records in government show a stronger focus on stabilising the economy, contrasting it with what he described as a “period of high prices of goods under the NPP administration.”
Mr. Mohammed referenced the renaming of the Flagstaff House to Jubilee House, alleging that the NPP not only made the change but also held an official ceremony to mark it.
According to him, this shows that NPP has previously supported name changes of national institutions including “Akenten- Menka University and UDS – Wa Campus renamed to Simon Diedong Dombo.”
He stressed that the NDC government applies fairness in its decisions and, therefore, should not be singled out for criticism over discussions surrounding the Kotoka International Airport name change.
