The Member of Parliament (MP) for Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has taken a swipe at Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George over his disclosure of the State’s move to extradite the Russian national accused of sexual exploitation in Ghana.
He described the minister’s statement as premature and hasty.
Speaking on the Angel Anopa Bofuo show, hosted by Ohemaa Sekyiwaa on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Mr. Acquah argued that the minister should have first examined the legal implications and Ghana’s diplomatic relations with Russia, especially since Russia does not permit the extradition of its citizens.
Mr. Acquah noted that the current government has a tendency to rush decisions, often aimed at raising public hope and diverting attention from unmet promises.
“Minister of the state’s communication, you come out to make a statement without finding out the legal implications; are we serious as a nation?” he questioned.
He further stressed that if the government had fulfilled its promise to establish a women’s development bank after winning the elections, many women would not have found themselves in the predicament involving the Russian national.
Mr. Acquah highlighted that countless women are struggling to meet their basic needs, which makes them vulnerable to promises made by men.
He called on the minister and the government to take measures to ensure justice for the Ghanaian women involved, noting that the incident reflects poorly on both the women and the country.
“He [President John Mahama] said when he comes, he would open a women’s development bank; some of these women could have secured employment there.
“In the video, one woman who was wealthy didn’t seem to mind him, which indicates that lack of well-being plays a significant role in this,” he stated.
He urged the government to fulfil its commitments, particularly the establishment of the women’s development bank, as a means to improve the well-being of Ghanaian women and help them avoid such disgraceful situations.
