Police in Oti Region have seized a massive suspected cannabis valued at GHC 1.4 million from a Volvo truck intercepted at the Bonakye checkpoint.
In a Police statement, the operation unfolded when police officers acting on intelligence from a stopped truck with registration number GC 3522-09 in 2025.
“The truck was stopped on 29th December, 2025, while heading toward Kpassa. Intelligence suggested it was transporting illegal goods.
“The driver and one other occupant fled, abandoning the vehicle with the ignition key,” the statement disclosed.
The Police emphasized that following a court order issued by the Jasikan Circuit Court, the truck was opened at Nkwanta, in the presence of representatives from the Police, Military, NIB, Defence Intelligence, and Ghana National Fire Service, the Narcotics Control Commission (Jasikan), and members of the media.
The Police Service further retrieved items with an estimated street value of the seized substances exceeding millions of Cedis.
“Officers discovered three hundred and twenty (320) cartons of bottled mineral bottle water, concealing ninety- one (91) bales of suspected cannabis, totaling seven thousand, one hundred and seventy-three (7,173) slabs, with an estimated street value of the seized substances exceeding
GHS 1.4 million,” the Police mentioned.
The Police Service assured the public of it commitment to combat trafficking and
distribution of illegal drugs.
