The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested thirty-eight (38) suspected illegal miners who were allegedly operating in a palm plantation surrounding area of Ntoranang in New Abirem.
In a Police statement, the arrest was successfully carried out following an intelligence led operation on Friday, February 27, 2026 between the hours of 10am and 1pm.
According to the Police Service, seventeen (17) of the suspects are Burkinabe nationals whilst Twenty-One (21) of them are Ghanaians and Nine (9) are juveniles with ages ranging from 13 to 17 years.
The Service revealed that exhibits recovered from the suspects include water pumping machines, power generators, makeshift shelters, and water hose have been destroyed.

The Police further confirmed that all suspects are in custody assisting investigation and shall be arraigned on Monday, March 2, 2026 for prosecution.
