The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the commencement of training for the first batch of recruits amid a significant step in its ongoing recruitment exercise.
According to a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp, Accra, dated 7 March 2026, “2,000 recruits have been selected as the first in a series of four batches.”
These personnel are expected to report to designated selection centers across all 16 regions of Ghana on Wednesday, 18 March 2026 at 0900 hours to receive their appointment letters and prospectus.
The release also acknowledged the tragic incident at El-Wak Stadium last year, stating that “18 recruits from the first batch were injured during the stampede, and five others were sponsored by families of the deceased from the same incident.”
“The Ghana Armed Forces expresses gratitude to the 16 Regional Administrations for their support in organizing the exercise.”
It assured remaining applicants that “selection for the remaining batches is ongoing,” adding that the military has “a pool of high-scoring applicants from the aptitude test for future recruitment exercises.”
The statement said recruitment for persons from Sikaman in the Ashanti Region, who assisted in a helicopter crash rescue operation last year, “is under consideration for the second batch of training.”
GAF encouraged applicants with curable medical issues to seek treatment, noting that “such applicants may be invited for a review at a later date at no cost.”
