The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rescued 44 Ghanaian nationals from a fraudulent recruitment network operating in Nigeria.
According to a statement by the Ministry, the victims were lured through deceptive social‑media and informal recruitment channels with false promises of employment and travel opportunities.
Upon arrival in Nigeria, the individuals were subjected to exploitative conditions, including restricted movement, psychological coercion, and pressure to recruit others into the scheme.
A coordinated operation by Nigerian security authorities, including the Department of State Services (DSS), in collaboration with Ghanaian institutions, brought the victims back to Accra on March 20, 2026.
The rescue operation was executed on March 16, 2026.
It mentioned that the Government of Ghana is working closely with Nigerian counterparts and stakeholders to dismantle the criminal network. Efforts are underway to protect, rehabilitate, and reintegrate the victims.
The Ministry thanked the Federal Republic of Nigeria for its prompt intervention and expressed continued cooperation between the two governments.
It reiterated strong condemnation of human trafficking and fraudulent recruitment, pledging to safeguard Ghanaian nationals’ welfare.
The Ministry further advised the public to exercise utmost caution, verify travel and employment offers through official channels, and avoid unverified individuals or entities.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Ghanaian citizens both at home and abroad.
