Managing Director for Ghana Water Ltd., Adam Mutawakilu, has emphasized the importance of equitable access to safe and reliable water on World Water Day 2026.
The theme, “Water and Gender: Where Water Flows, Equality Grows,” highlights the role of water in empowering women and girls, reducing inequalities, and strengthening communities.
In a statement, Mutawakilu outlined Ghana Water Ltd’s commitment to achieving 100% access to safe water and contributing to Sustainable Development Goal.
“This year’s theme, “Water and Gender: Where Water Flows, Equality Grows,” reminds us that access to safe and reliable water is not only a basic human necessity but also a powerful driver of inclusion, dignity, and socio-economic development.
“At Ghana Water Ltd, we recognize that equitable access to water empowers women and girls, reduces inequalities, and strengthens communities.
“We are committed to supporting the Government’s agenda of achieving 100% access to safe water and contributing meaningfully to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 6,” he said.
However, he acknowledged challenges such as pollution, aging infrastructure, and rising demand.
To address these challenges, Ghana Water Ltd is implementing strategic interventions, including expanding water supply systems, investing in modern treatment technologies, and promoting sustainable water resource management.
Mutawakilu called on customers and the public to play their part by paying water bills promptly, using water wisely, protecting water bodies, and supporting community efforts to keep the environment clean.
