FC Samartex 1996 recorded a remarkable 2-1 victory over Asante Kotoko Sporting Club at the Baba Yara Stadium during their Ghana Premier League (GPL) Week 28 fixture on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
The match, originally scheduled for Monday, was postponed due to heavy rain following a goalless first half.
The second half resumed in the early hours of Tuesday and saw the visiting team upset the Porcupine Warriors on their home turf. Goals from Agyenim Boateng and Emmanuel Mamah sealed the win for Samartex.
Albert Amaoh found the net late in the game, scoring a consolation goal from a rebound after Samba O’Neil missed a penalty, bringing the final score to 2-1.
This result dealt a significant blow to Kotoko’s title ambitions as they now sit fourth in the league table with 43 points, eight points behind leaders Bibiani Gold Stars.
FC Samartex moves to seventh place with 41 points after 28 matches and will return home to face Berekum Chelsea in their next fixture.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko, on the other hand, will travel to Tarkwa to take on league leaders Medeama for matchday 29.
