Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has stated that handing over Damang Mines to Engineers and Planners (E&P) “smells fishy,” but urged the company’s owner, Ibrahim Mahama, to prove critics wrong and make the venture a success.
In an open letter, Bentil addressed critics who doubt Mahama’s ability to manage the mine, saying “Some people say you will just borrow and spend and leave the mine stranded… Don’t let them be right. Make this work!!”
He emphasized the need for expertise and significant funding to ensure the mine is run “sensibly” and profitably.
Bentil expressed confidence in Ghanaian success, saying “I sincerely don’t care because I will bend backwards to see Ghanaians succeed!”
He added that success would set a positive precedent for Ghanaian ownership of natural resources.
