The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sent heartfelt condolences to Ghana Premier League side Berekum Chelsea following a deadly attack by armed robbers on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
The Blues came under gang attack at Ahyiresu on the Bibiani-Goaso stretch while returning from a 1-0 league defeat to FC Samartex in Samreboi.
Dominic Frimpong, a player, sustained gunshot wounds and lost his life following the robbery attack.
In a statement, the GFA described the tragic incident as shocking, expressed deep sorrow, and commiserated with the club, affected families, and the football fraternity.
“The GFA extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, his teammates, technical staff, management, and all at Berekum Chelsea during this extremely difficult time,” the statement said.
The incident, which the GFA said has sent shockwaves across the entire football fraternity, is not only a huge loss to Berekum Chelsea but also to Ghana football as a whole.
The GFA noted that it is in constant communication with the club and relevant authorities, including the Ghana Police Service, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.
“We urge that all necessary measures be taken to ensure justice is served,” the GFA pledged.
The GFA further called on the entire football community to unite in support of Berekum Chelsea and the bereaved family in this moment of grief.
