The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of two robbery suspects by the Bekwai Circuit Court in connection with a robbery incident that took place in Asonkore, Obuasi.
The convicted individuals, Rashid Adams and Godfred Ampadu, were arrested following investigations into an incident on April 3, 2026. During the robbery, a gold dealer was attacked, knocked down with a tricycle, and robbed of both gold and cash.
Police investigations led to the apprehension of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen gold, as well as a vehicle believed to have been purchased with the proceeds from the robbery.
Both suspects pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery and were convicted based on their own admissions. Rashid Adams received a 30-year prison sentence, while Godfred Ampadu was sentenced to 25 years, with both sentences to run concurrently.
A third suspect, Dominic Naazie, who is alleged to have aided the crime, pleaded not guilty and has been remanded in custody, with a scheduled court appearance on April 24, 2026.
