The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has announced that every Wednesday will be dedicated to wearing Fugu (Batakari), a traditional Ghanaian attire, as part of a government initiative to preserve and promote the country’s rich cultural heritage.
In a declaration signed by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the move aims to deepen national cultural awareness, affirm Ghanaian identity, and showcase the heritage with pride globally.
The initiative is expected to generate social and economic benefits by empowering local weavers, designers, artisans, and traders, boosting business, employment, and commercial opportunities nationwide.
The government hopes the embrace of Fugu will strengthen national unity, stimulate the creative economy, and serve as a symbol of Ghana’s cultural confidence and self-expression.
