Fire has damaged the GRIDCo substation at Mallam in Accra, leading to power outages in parts of the capital.
The Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), ADO1 Alex King Nartey, says the fire has been brought under control and extinguished.
Explaining the firefighting operation, ADO1 Nartey noted that the incident was an electrical fire which required a specialised approach to put out.
“Power outage has been experienced from Lapaz through to Anyaa and its environs. Firefighters from Amasaman and the National Headquarters have been working very hard to make sure that the fire is put under control. We’ve been able to prevent the fire from spreading,” he said.
He noted that if not for the timely intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service, the fire would have spread to other installations.
ADO1 Nartey added that residents experiencing power outage should bear with the power suppliers as efforts are underway to restore power.
