A Syrian national has been arrested at the Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, after arriving from Accra, Ghana, with approximately 40 kilograms of suspected cocaine concealed in two pieces of luggage.
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in a statement issued on Sunday, November 1, 2026, said the suspect was arrested on Saturday, October 31, following a coordinated operation between Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities.
According to the Commission, the arrest forms part of an ongoing operation to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the international drug trafficking network.
NACOC said it is currently working to arrest the suspect’s accomplices in Ghana as investigations continue.
The Commission explained that the operation involved a controlled delivery exercise, which allowed authorities in both countries to gather intelligence and target individuals at different points along the drug supply chain.
It added that the joint operation was aimed at eradicating the wider transnational criminal syndicate believed to be behind the shipment.
NACOC further noted that the successful arrest demonstrates the commitment of Ghana and Lebanon to disrupting international drug trafficking networks through cross-border intelligence sharing and cooperation.
