Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on the incumbent government to review its approach to managing the affairs of the country.
Mr Mahama bemoaning the hardships the citizenry is facing, blamed the Akufo-Addo administration for its misplaced priorities which are contributing to the economic woes of the country.
In a Facebook post sighted by Angelonline.com.gh, he wrote: “…We expect government to set right priorities, eschew arrogance, and stop wasteful expenditure, address corruption and tolerate dissent. We also expect government to bring socio-economic relief to Ghanaians”.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) bigwig commented on the socio-economic challenges as part of his goodwill message to the public on the event of Ghana’s Republic Day.
According to him, after the struggles of the nation’s forbears to gain self-determination from the British, they expected that the government of the day would put in the necessary efforts to protect the citizenry against socio-economic crises, but their hopes failed.
“Sadly, our forbears are observing Ghanaians today going through excruciating suffering and commodity price hikes due to the massive economic downturn. This is certainly not the Ghana they envisaged. Our forbears expected and still expect government to do right to every Ghanian, not just a few”.
He thus urged the government to “set their priorities right in order to address the excruciating hardships millions of Ghanaians are going through”.
Meanwhile, he has also called on the general public to strive together to build the nation.
