The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has relieved the Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) for Akim Oda of her duties with immediate effect.
The decision was communicated through a letter signed by the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, Osei Bonsu Amoah, dated March 19, 2024.
The letter cited Article 243(3)(b) of the Constitution and Section 20(3)(b) of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936) as the legal basis for the President’s action.
“I wish to inform you that in accordance with Article 243(3)(b) of the Constitution and Section 20(3)(b) of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936), His Excellency the President of the Republic has revoked your appointment as Municipal Chief Executive,” the letter stated.
The former MCE, Madam Victoria Adu, has been directed to transfer all responsibilities to the Regional Minister who will act as the MCE until a substantive MCE is appointed.
