Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, has emphasised the need for improved sanitation in the Greater Accra Region, stressing that environmental protection agencies at the assembly level must take a more active role in addressing the issue.
In an interview with Saddick Adams on the Angel Morning Show on 4 April 2025, Madam Ocloo suggested that legislation should be enacted to hold individuals accountable for not fulfilling their mandated tasks, even if they are not paid.
“If we give a law that if you do not meet your mandate or task, even if they don’t pay you, it’ll serve as a lesson,” she stated.
Minister Ocloo attributed the current state of sanitation in the region to complacency. “We’ve relaxed, and that’s why we’re where we are today,” she remarked.
She also expressed concern over the poor attitude towards work exhibited by some assembly members, citing instances of absenteeism and a lack of initiative to address issues on the ground.
“Your duty is not in the office; move around the district,” she urged.
Madam Ocloo believes that by ensuring accountability and adopting a proactive approach to sanitation, the region can achieve its goals.
