Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has denied reports claiming he told the Black Queens to boycott their upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Egypt.
The Queens have reportedly refused to train over unpaid bonuses from their 2024 WAFCON campaign in Morocco, which ended in July.
In earlier reports, the Minister was alleged to have made comments suggesting that the players could proceed with their boycott, as they would be replaced by a different crop of players.
However, speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Kofi Adams debunked the reports, stating he never made such a statement.
“Why would I say that, why would I spend my time driving all the way to their camp and tell them they [Black Queens] can boycott if they want to.
“So this morning, we are shocked to see [the stories]. I may not blame them [players] entirely,” he said.
He further clarified his statement, explaining that:
“If they [Black Queens] insist [by boycotting], it will affect the nation, but the nation will be back. But as for you involved in the boycott, you will forever walk with that tag on you, I said so…,” the Minister noted.
