Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been elected as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate for the next general elections, following his electoral victory in the party’s recent presidential primary.
He received massive endorsement in the exercise held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
More than 200,000 delegates across the country participated in the exercise, casting a total of 196,462 ballots, of which 195,901 were declared valid and 561 rejected.
According to the certified results declared by the Returning Officer, Samuel Dottoh Kwaah, Dr. Bawumia secured 110,643 votes, representing 56.48% of the valid ballots cast.
His closest contender, Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, polled 46,554 votes (23.76%), while Hon. Bryan Acheampong followed with 36,303 votes (18.53%). Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong obtained 1,999 votes (1.02%) and 402 votes (0.21%) respectively.
The declaration was duly signed by the Returning Officer and confirmed by agents of the candidates present at the collation centre.
With this victory, Dr. Bawumia becomes the flagbearer of the NPP, setting the stage for the party’s campaign ahead of the 2028 general elections.
