Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has taken a commanding lead in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary, according to provisional results released from his campaign’s strong room.
Figures from 292 out of 333 constituencies show Dr. Bawumia securing 98,141 votes, representing 56.52 percent.
His closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, garnered 40,483 votes (23.31 percent), while Dr. Bryan Acheampong followed with 32,501 votes (18.72 percent). Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyapong trailed with 1,636 and 361 votes respectively.

In what he described as “comprehensive collation results”, Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude to delegates and supporters after the announcement, which was met with jubilation from his camp.
“Let me thank all of you. We’ve gone through a journey. It’s been a great battle we’ve waged across the country…and we couldn’t have gotten here without the support of the team around me.”
He highlighted the role of Members of Parliament who rallied behind him throughout the contest.
“You’re only as good as your team in these matters. And I can say without any fear of contradiction that I have been blessed with an excellent team.
“The campaign team, in general, everybody has contributed so much, and I cannot really thank everybody individually at the moment, but I will have time to thank everybody individually.
“The MPs, I must say, who have stood by my side have been phenomenal in this contest. They’ve really supported, and they’ve delivered what they promised to do. I want to thank all the members of parliament who supported me,” Dr. Bawumia added.
He further acknowledged the national executives of the NPP for organizing the primary, as well as the Electoral Commission, the media, and other stakeholders who contributed to the process.
